Accessibility statements for the Careers Service. Accessible to everyone It’s really important that you can access all of our services and resources. We work hard to ensure that this is the case, below are some of the ways that we do this: Resources are offered in alternative formats on request, if there’s something you need that we don’t currently provide please let us know. Quiet zones at our fairs provide an area to take some time out; these spaces have sofas to chill out on and friendly staff on hand to chat to for reassurance or to answer any questions you may have. Our team are also happy to accompany you to employer stands if that makes it easier for you. Our one-to-one appointments with professionally qualified Careers Consultants provide space to talk about the issues that matter to your career the most. Our Careers Consultants have been trained in unconscious bias and are committed to impartiality and inclusivity. We take accessibility seriously and continue to review our service, so you have ideas on how we can make our services more accessible or reduce barriers to engaging with us, we really want to know. How we are improving this website's accessibility (Careers Service Plus) We will continue to address the accessibility issues highlighted, working with the software supplier, Abintegro, to deliver a solution or suitable workaround. Unless specified otherwise, a complete solution or significant improvement will be in place for those items within our control by December 2022. After discussion with Abintegro they have stated their commitment to accessibility through the accessibility widget and looking to make coding improvement to the actual site for new aspects. The University has raised their concerns about this approach and continues to push for a more accessible system without the reliance on an external widget. We will continue to liaise with Abintegro and monitor the situation to push for accessibility improvements. Whilst we are in the process of resolving these accessibility issues, or where we are unable, we will ensure reasonable adjustments are in place to make sure no user is disadvantaged. As changes are made, we will continue to review and retest the accessibility of this application. Preparation of this accessibility statement (heading) This statement was prepared on 9th February 2022. It was last reviewed on 22nd November 2022. This application was tested by the University of Edinburgh’s Disability Information team in February 2022, using the Internet Explorer (19041.1052) alongside Mozilla Firefox (78.11.0esr), Microsoft Edge (91.0.864.59) and Google Chrome (91.0.4471.124) browsers. Internet Explorer is still commonly used by disabled people, due to its accessibility features and compatibility with assistive technology, as shown in a UK government survey: UK Government Assistive Technology Browser Survey. However, a more recent world-wide usage level survey suggests the other three browsers are used more widely. In particular, when using a combination of different screen readers and browsers, Chrome has increased in popularity, and is now the favoured one in overall use: WebAIM: Screen Reader User Survey 2021 We tested: Spellcheck functionality; Scaling using different resolutions and reflow; Options to customise the interface (magnification, font, background colour et. cetera); Keyboard navigation and keyboard traps; Data validation; Warning of links opening in a new tab or window; Information conveyed in colour or sound only; Flashing, moving or scrolling text; Operability if JavaScript is disabled; Use with screen reading software (for example, JAWS); Assistive software (TextHelp Read and Write, Windows Magnifer, ZoomText, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, TalkBack and VoiceOver); Tooltips and text alternatives for any non-text content; Time limits; Compatibility with mobile accessibility functionality (Android and iOS). This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). We plan to add text alternatives for all images by May 2026. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.Disproportionate burdenNavigation and accessing information It’s not possible for users to use a screen reader for some images not in SVG format.Interactive tools and transactionsSome assessments are not in text format due to the nature of the assessment. We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment when the supplier contract is up for renewal.Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulationsPDFs and other documentsSome of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs for Assessment Centre Exercises and Case Interview Briefs. We plan to introduce accessible HTML pages as alternatives. The accessibility regulations, 4.2.g., do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2019 if they are an intranet or extranet published before this date.Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish moving forward will meet accessibility standards. What we’re doing to improve accessibilityOur accessibility roadmap includes regular conversation with partners as well as review of the WCAG guidelines to inform how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website and portal.Preparation of this accessibility statementThis statement was prepared by GFI Group Limited. It has been reviewed and the website has been tested for accessibility. We used this approach to deciding on a sample of pages to test based on those most commonly selected. Accessibility statement: Student Circus This is an accessibility statement from Student Circus Limited. Measures to support accessibility Student Circus Limited takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of Student Circus: Accessibility is included as part of our mission statement.Accessibility is embedded throughout our internal policies.Accessibility is considered in our procurement practices. Our staff receive continual accessibility training.Clear accessibility goals and responsibilities are assigned.Formal accessibility quality assurance methods are employed. Conformance status The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Student Circus is currently non-conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Non-conformant means that the content does not yet meet accessibility standards. We previously used AccessiBe, an overlay tool, to provide a degree of accessibility support. However, we have discontinued its use to focus on making Student Circus natively accessible. We believe that genuine accessibility requires building accessibility into the platform itself, not relying on overlays. We have developed a workplan to address current gaps and achieve WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance. Improvements will be rolled out gradually in phases to ensure that accessibility is strengthened at its core and remains sustainable in the long term.Feedback We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Student Circus. Please let us know if you encounter accessibility barriers: hello@studentcircus.com4th Floor Franklin Building, 124 Goswell Road, London EC1V 7DP We aim to respond to feedback within 2–3 business days. Technical specifications Accessibility of Student Circus relies on the following technologies to work with web browsers and assistive technologies or plugins installed on your device:HTMLWAI-ARIACSSJavaScript These technologies are essential for conformance with the accessibility standards used. Limitations and alternatives Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Student Circus, there are some limitations. Below is a description of known issues and what we are doing about them. Known limitations for Student Circus: Some images may not have descriptive text alternatives. Certain documents, such as PDFs or guides, may not be fully accessible for screen reader users. Videos may not consistently include captions or transcripts. Navigation in some areas may be more challenging for users relying solely on keyboard input. Why this occurs: These issues arise because our platform is continuously updated with new features and resources, and accessibility improvements have not yet been fully implemented everywhere. Some accessibility barriers are also linked to third-party tools or user-generated content, which we cannot fully control. What we are doing about it: We are working towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance through phased improvements. Our plan includes regular accessibility audits and fixing the pointers which come up in the report, better keyboard navigation, improved colour contrast, adding text alternatives for images, and ensuring documents and videos are accessible. Our team is receiving ongoing training in accessibility best practices, and fixes are being rolled out step by step. What to do in the meantime: If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please contact us at hello@studentcircus.com. We will provide the information you need in an accessible format and prioritise improvements to address reported issues.
