The University of Edinburgh Careers Service will help to prepare and support your intern/s with a development programme before, during and after their internship. Our Internship Team will also work with you to create a job specification to ensure that the internship is beneficial both for our students and your business needs. The Team will support you in identifying suitable applicants, with the final selection decision being yours. Organisations of any location, sector or size are welcome to discuss arranging an Employ.ed Overseas internship with us. The requirements we ask all participating employers to meet are: Proposed internships should be exclusively for University of Edinburgh students. Internships should last for 8-12 weeks dependent on your requirements (students are usually available from May dependent on their exam timetable). Work plans should be clearly defined, dependent on your business needs. The programme requires you to pay your intern, widening access to all our students and demonstrating the value of their work. You will be required to provide interns insurance coverage while in your workplace. Your responsibilities for the internship All employers must fulfil a list of obligations and requirements throughout the programme: Pre-internship: Complete a detailed job specification for your internship using the template form provided below. Clearly outlining the internship project(s) the intern will be expected to deliver. Hold interviews (either by telephone, Skype or face-to-face) with candidates shortlisted for you by our Internship Team and appoint a successful candidate based on this process. Provide a contract of employment to the selected student. Sponsor and support interns through any visa application process and provide helpful information on travel arrangements and accommodation where possible. Identify a contact within your organisation who will communicate with the intern and Careers Service. During the internship: Provide a fair rate of pay to the intern for the work they provide, consistent with a local living wage. Provide a suitable place of work and any equipment or materials an intern will require to complete their internship. Provide full employers’ insurance to cover the course of the intern's duties and provide proof of this to the Careers Service when requested. Comply with all local laws, tax regulations and health and safety directives with regards to the intern and their employment. Adhere to all local and international laws and regulations regarding the storage and transfer of personal information for all internship applicants at all times. After the internship: Provide evaluative feedback to the Careers Service following the completion of the internship, on your intern and your experience of the programme.
