How to support our students through the School of Geosciences Career Mentoring Programme 2021. Image The School of Geosciences Career Mentoring Programme aims to enlist the warmth and willingness of our wider community to help 3rd year students of Geography flourish. The support of a mentor will be even more vital during the current pandemic, which is having a significant impact on our students and their career plans. You can boost our students’ confidence, help them recognise their skills and attributes, and support them achieve their career goals. As a mentor, you will meet and develop a professional relationship with one of our students, offering your own experiences and expertise and drawing on your knowledge to help encourage their development. This is an amazing opportunity to support our students and introduce them to the importance of building a professional network, to help them with those all-important first steps in their career. For 2021 the programme will run from March/April for a period of 6 months. It is open to students who are in the third year of their Geography degree with training running in the Spring. The programme is: Flexible – Within a 6 month timeframe you are encouraged to meet with your mentee 6 times. The timings of these meetings can be arranged between you, these are not specified. Matched - We will match you with a mentee based on what you feel you can offer, and their career development goals. Supported - The programme team is on hand throughout to help you make the most of the relationship and development opportunity.
